Upgrading Symantec EndPoint Protection

Symantec Endpoint Protection is the latest version of Symantec's AntiVirus Corporate Edition software.

Check What Version of Symantec You Have

To check the version you are currently running

  1. Right-click on the Symantec Icon in the System Tray.

  2. Select Open Symantec EndPoint Protection
  3. From the Help button select About
  4. Verify your Version

Uninstall Older Versions

To remove old versions of Symantec EndPoint Protection (or other Symantec products):

  1. From the Start Menu select Control Panels.
  2. Verify that you are using the View By: Small or Large Icons, rather than Category.
  3. Select the Programs and Features (or Add Remove Programs) Control Panel.
  4. Select Symantec EndPoint Protection from the installed programs list
  5. Click Uninstall
  6. After the uninstall has completed, reboot your computer.

Download and Install Symantec EndPoint Protection

This software is available to Gustavus students and faculty on the GReg Download Page. Before installing Symantec, please be sure to verify that all other anti-virus software is completely removed from your system, Endpoint Protection will not function properly if other anti-virus software is present.

To install Symantec EndPoint Protection:

  1. Download the installer from the GReg Download Page.
  2. Double-click the installer after it is downloaded.
  3. Follow the prompts.
  4. After the installation completes, reboot your computer.

Verify Symantec is Installed and Working

To verify that your Symantec installed:

  1. Right-click on the Symantec Icon in the System Tray.

  2. Select Open Symantec EndPoint Protection
  3. Verify that your computer is protected, has current definitions for virus protection and proactive threat protection.
