Can I use Windows on my Mac?
Yes, there are a few ways that you can use Microsoft Windows on an Apple computer depending on its intended use. There are methods that do not need anything installed on your own computer and instead run through your browser as well as virtual connections that can be done in a windowed view. These will mimic the use of a computer in one of the computer labs and allow you to use any of the software that comes loaded on the lab computers.
The other way to run Windows is to split your hard drive and run Windows and Mac OS separately from the same hard drive. (This is a smoother method but you will not have direct access to the apps on lab computers if choosing this option.)
- If you're thinking about using a web-client: Running Virtual Lab through your Browser
- If you want a more stable experience, you can run the virtual lab through the VMWare Horizon client: Using VMWare on your Mac
- If you want the normal 'Windows feel', however, your best bet is to split your hard-drive and install the Windows OS. Creating and loading a Windows partition using Boot Camp
Both of these will send require a DUO Authentication but you may not see this within VMWare Horizon. Once you open your DUO app, you'll see the Awaiting Response message at the top of your screen and can approve the request from there.
Using Bootcamp is a more involved method and requires a bit of time to set up. After setup, however, you will have a smoother experience.
