Geographic Information System
A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a system for capturing, storing, analyzing and managing data and associated attributes which are spatially referenced to the earth.
Lab
Gustavus maintains a GIS computer lab in the basement of Nobel Hall. The lab is equipped with 16 Sandy Bridge i5 computers. Each machine has several geographical software titles installed, including:
- ArcView
- ArcGIS
- Spatial Analyst
- 3-D Analyst
- Idrisi GIS software
Access to a color printer is available.
Recent issues
A compatibility problem between ArcGIS and IE7 was recently discovered. It is believed these issues were resolved with a patch from ArcGIS, but if you discover any issues related to this, please contact the Technology Helpline at x6111.
