Data Governance

Data Governance is the process an organization follows to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data.

Data Governance Committee

The mission of the Data Governance Committee is to develop, recommend and execute policies and procedures governing the confidentiality, availability and integrity of data. Membership is rotating. The committee meets every month or as needed.

Data Governance Request System

One of the first charges of the committee was to formalize the process the institution uses when requests for access to another user's data (email, home directory, local computer, Google or Office 365) are received.

Institutional policy dictates that access to another user's data must be approved by two Vice Presidents before the request is granted. One of the approvals must come from a VP in the division of the requester.

A web-based Data Governance Request System has been established to formalize the data request process, enforce accountability, create audit logs, and automate the process. Following please find additional information on the Data Governance Request System.

Requesting Data

To submit a request, please visit Data Governance Request Form. You will receive an email verification after the request is submitted. Please note that access to another user's data must be approved by two Vice Presidents before the request is granted. One of the approvals must come from a VP in the division of the requester.

Request Approved

Once a request has been submitted and VP approval has been received, the requester will receive email notification. A Technology Services staff member will deliver the requested data to the individual making the request.

Request Rejected

If your request is not approved, you will receive email notification.

Vice President Approval

Vice Presidents will be notified via email when requests are submitted that require their approval. The email message will include a link. The link will include the details of the request and allow approval or rejection of the request.
