POSITION OVERVIEW:

Receptionist duties include welcoming and assisting students, faculty/staff, and guests who enter the office; scheduling appointments; answering phone calls and taking messages; being aware of and knowledgeable about current Peer Education and Chemical Health services and activities; projecting a positive public image of the office and Gustavus.  Student employees in the Peer Education and Chemical Health will learn to handle a variety of challenging situations in a professional and confidential manner. 

Assist in preparing for Peer Assistant (PA) activities and logistics. This may include attending activities after normal business hours. 

 

EXPECTATIONS:

  • Dress in a professional manner, in accordance with the dress standards to be set by the Peer Education and Chemical Health office 
  • Act as a role model and in a manner that complies with all college policies and procedures
  • Handle confidential material appropriately
  • Fulfill all responsibilities outlined in the position description
  • Act as a representative of the Peer Education and Chemical Health office staff in any matters of duties that may be assigned by the professional staff
  • Be knowledgeable of student organizations, involvement opportunities, and recognition procedures
  • Thoroughly understand the processes and procedures, and provide assistance to the Peer Education and Chemical Health staff
  • Have necessary computer skills, be able to use the computer for administrative tasks, and have knowledge of the Gustavus Adolphus College website
  • Work evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as scheduled
  • Use keys responsibly, as needed for different jobs within the Campus Center/Student Union

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Keep the highest standards of confidentiality at all times
  • Keep individuals from entering professional staff offices without invitation
  • Keep all electronic equipment secure at all times never leaving computer unlocked and/or unattended
  • Work cooperatively with Peer Assistance, Dean of Students office, Student Activities Office professional staff, Information Desk staff, Custodial Services, Security, Dining Services, Physical Plant, Technical Crew, and other workers within the Campus Center/Student Union
  • Have working knowledge of the sound and lighting systems within the facility and be knowledgeable about the set-up procedures and systems within the Campus Center/Student Union   
  • Complete assigned paperwork and other administrative details in a thorough and timely manner 
  • Serve as a resource for staff members and the college community in the absence of Peer Education and Chemical Health office staff members
  • Hold accountable Peer Education and Chemical Health staff for assigned shifts and inform PEACH professional staff of those issues
  • Work on special projects as assigned by the professional staff
  • Report security and maintenance issues and fill out work orders as necessary
