Description

Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time position of Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography for a 5- or 4-month term beginning either January 3, 2022, or February 2, 2022. The department anticipates a continued vacancy, and the successful candidate may also be able to teach during the Fall 2022 semester, contingent upon favorable evaluation and the continuing needs of the College.

Major/Essential Functions: The teaching assignment will be 3.5 or 4.5 course equivalents, depending on the start date of the successful candidate. Candidates able to teach in both the January and Spring terms will teach an equivalent of 4.5 courses. Candidates able to teach only the Spring semester (to begin February 2, 2022) will offer an equivalent of 3.5 courses. Salary is based on teaching load.

Primary teaching responsibilities will include courses and labs that contribute to the Geography and Environmental Studies majors, such as Introductory courses in Physical Geography, Climate Change, Human/Environment interactions, and contributions to general education.

Prerequisites

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Geography (or a related field); we will consider candidates who have achieved ABD status and who will complete their degree by January 3, 2022
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching
  • Evidence of a commitment to undergraduate teaching and student advising
  • Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to pedagogical methods that enable students across racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups to reach their maximum potential

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching physical and/or environmental studies courses
