JOB SUMMARY:  The primary purpose of this position is to provide direction, oversight, and management responsibility for all components of the current unrestricted, current scholarship, and outreach efforts for the Gustavus (Annual) Fund.  This includes, but is not limited to, mailings, phonathon, Give to Gustavus Day, case statements, volunteer engagement, marketing, messaging, related reunion giving efforts, raising alumni giving participation, and leadership Gustavus Fund giving.  With the ultimate aim of significantly advancing the Gustavus Fund, meeting stated campaign and budgetary goals, and raising annual giving for alumni, parents, and friends.


  • Annually envisions and implements the Gustavus Fund Plan, focusing on meeting budgetary goals, achieving and surpassing benchmarks, and moving the annual giving program forward.  
  • Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Advancement, creates, directs, and implements short- and long-term strategies to achieve annual dollar and participation goals for the Gustavus Annual Fund through a program that engages and solicits alumni, parents, and friends. 
  • Manages all aspects of Give to Gustavus Day.  
  • Coordinates with the Alumni Board and the Parents Council volunteers for outreach and marketing efforts for attaining college goals.  
  • Continually assesses, tracks, and analyzes results and recommends opportunities for improvement and growth.
  • Collaborate with the major gifts staff to identify, cultivate, and solicit individuals for annual and major gifts.
  • Coordinates and guides the reunion giving efforts for reunion classes as assigned.  
  • Directs and oversees all written and electronic appeals, including concept development, message outline, and appropriate audience distribution.
  • Oversees the Student Phonathon and college matching gift programs. 
  • Supervises the Assistant Director of the Gustavus Fund.
  • Manages all aspects of the Gustavus Fund annual budget. 
  • Participates in appropriate professional organizations.
  • All other duties as assigned.



  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Experience in alumni relations, annual fundraising, and/or similar non-profit development or constituent outreach programs.
  • A strong analytical background in and understanding of audience segmentation, marketing and communications is essential, as is a desire to work as a part of a team.
  • The ability to forge strong working relationships with others and a capacity for engaging confidence and trust among donors, parents, and friends of Gustavus Adolphus College.
  • Strong degree of attention to details and analysis of reports and results. 
  • Deep computer literacy and knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • High motivation for success coupled with diplomacy, tact, and consistent follow-through with both internal and external constituents.
  • Participate in occasional evening and weekend activities.


  • Experience with Ellucian, Blackbaud Fundraiser Performance Management, moves management systems.  
  • Masters degree in related field
