Seed Money Grants


Seed money grants are awarded to students with the most innovative and potentially scalable ideas. Winners are assigned to entrepreneurship coaches and encouraged to compete in the Gustie Entrepreneur Cup. 

The Seed Money grants are awarded on the rolling basis. To apply, describe your business in no more than 500 words. Applications will be evaluated by a panel of alumni. Email your submission to

Make sure to address each of the following questions in your essay:

  1. Who is applying? (list the names of the founders)
  2. What is the name of the company?
  3. What is your product or service? (photos, web links, etc. are welcomed)
  4. What problem or need is your product supposed to solve or address?
  5. Who is your competition? How is your product or service different from that of your competitors?
  6. Who is your target customer? 
  7. Typically the Seed Money Grant doesn't exceed $500. How much do you need to get started? How do you plan to use the Seed Money Grant?
  8. Is this a proposed venture or is it already been operating?
    1. If already operating, what is your average monthly or annual revenue?
    2. If proposed, what steps have you already taken to launch it?

Additional requirements: 

  1. Individual and team applications are accepted. All team members must be current Gustavus students
  2. Students who are on any type of Gustavus Adolphus College probation are not eligible
  3. Recipients will be required to submit a report on how they allocated the funds by the end of the spring semester
