Positive COVID-19 Case in a Class

When there is a positive COVID-19 case in a class the following protocol will take place:

  • A COVID case manager will talk with the positive person to learn about their class attendance and possible close contacts in class.
  • The case manager will send an email to the class email alias for classes where the person attended during their infectious period notifying them of a possible exposure in class.
  • The case manager will email those named as possible close contacts based on the case investigation and seating chart.
  • The class should continue to meet in person.
  • Classmates who are not close contacts, should monitor for symptoms for 10 days and take a COVID test if symptoms develop.
  • If 3 or more students in a class test positive in a short time period, the faculty member will inform a member of the COVID support team who will email the whole class encouraging them to get tested.

Non-Class Contact tracing

When there is a positive COVID-19 case :

  • A COVID case manager will talk with the positive person to learn about their possible close contacts with any Gustavus employees or students outside of class.
  • The case manager will email people who were identified as a possible close contacts based on the case investigation advising them of the quarantine process.
