Meet Suyoung Han

Why did you choose Gustavus?
I discovered that Gustavus truly cares about their International Students through talking to various people, and I wanted to be someplace where I would feel welcomed. Emailing the advisor, Jeff Anderson, made me realize that I would not be in a strange place, but rather a friendly environment.

What makes Gustavus unique for you?
I was told that Gustavus was designed to allow people to be able to walk around from building to building, in no more than 15 minutes. I love the fact that I do not have to take a bus or drive to move from here to there, but can simply walk around. Plus, with our great security officers, I love how I never felt unsafe walking around late at night heading to my dorm from the library.

What has been your favorite academic experience?
I am in the Curriculum II program and loving it! I strongly recommend international students to apply for Curriculum II.  Curriculum II is a unique program which I never heard of at other universities. It is not an Honors program, but with its strong academic curriculum, it challenges you to really think about what you are studying. Curriculum II provides you with a place to speak openly!

How do you interact with your professors outside the classroom?

When I have specific things I want to talk about, I email them first to make an appointment. Otherwise, just to ask simple questions, I stop by their office or wait after the class.

What is your favorite food in the Marketplace?
Omelets on Thursday mornings! But it’s really hard to wake up early.

What advice would you give to prospective Gusties?
Come with your willingness. The more you put into it, the more you get out of it.
