Meet Dasha Grishina

Why did you choose Gustavus?
It was my childhood dream to study abroad one day so I started to work towards achieving my dream. I became an exchange student through the FLEX program. During my exchange year, I visited Gustavus Adolphus College and fell in love with its beautiful campus and friendly environment. I wanted to become a part of a big Gustavus family. I applied, got accepted, and here I am!

What makes Gustavus unique for you?
When you are coming to Gustavus, it is like you are coming home to your family, which is an amazing feeling!

What activities have you been involved in at Gustavus that have been the most rewarding?

I am a part of many organizations on this campus. My Russian soul belongs to the Russian Club and International Cultures Club. I love promoting my native language and culture around campus in any way possible. Also, the promotion of diversity on campus is really important to me. That is why I am a part of Diversity Leadership Council. Additionally, being a part of the Pre-Dentistry club is quite important to me. Experiencing small things about my future job right now makes me want to become a dentist even more.

How do you interact with your professors outside the classroom?

I definitely try to meet with faculty outside of the classroom. All the professors are always willing to help me with my assignments or answer questions. I use them as resources and as mentors for my academic growth.

What is your favorite food in the Marketplace?
All the food is greatly prepared and tastes delicious. The most amazing invention in the Marketplace is the monthly cuisine from different countries!

What is your favorite Gustavus tradition?
I love participating in Homecoming, when everyone is wearing traditional Gustavus colors: black and gold. It is a lot of fun!

What has surprised you about life at Gustavus?
I thought I was going to be studying all the time. Indeed, I have to study a lot, but at the same time there are so many activities going on around campus every day.
