Gustavus Show Choir Camp


Gustavus Show Choir Camp is located on the beautiful campus of Gustavus Adolphus College, located in St. Peter, Minn., 65 miles southwest of the Twin Cities on Highway 169. We offer a free shuttle to and from the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport.

The camp offers a carefully supervised introduction to college life. Students live in college residence halls, eat in the nationally ranked campus-dining center, and attend sessions in college buildings. The structure, opportunities, and adult supervision available at Gustavus make it a first choice for concerned parents.

What to Bring

Dear Camper,

Thank you for enrolling in the fourth annual Gustavus Show Choir Camp. We are very excited to work with you and to provide you with an outstanding show choir experience in a FUN camp setting!

In order to assist with your planning, I thought it would be helpful to share some important logistical information with you. First, you are free to arrive at Gustavus anytime between 1:30 and 3:30 on Sunday, July 12. Please enter campus via College Avenue where you will find signs clearly indicating directions to the Jackson Campus Center. You will find parking lots located directly in front of the building. A campus map is also included for your convenience. Please report to the lower level of the Jackson Campus Center to obtain your room key, housing assignment, and other camp materials. Once you have checked in, a camp staff member will escort you to the dorm where you will be staying.

Our first official function will begin at 4:00. The schedule for Sunday, July 12 will look like this:

  • 1:30-3:30     Registration and Final Payment
  • 4:00-5:30     Orientation
  • 5:30-6:30     Dinner (Market Place in Jackson Campus Center)
  • 6:30-8:30     Vocal Session (Bjorling Recital Hall in the Music Building)
  • 8:30-9:00     Pride Time
  • 9:00-10:00   Ice Cream Social

Second, when packing, you will want to consider bringing the following:

  • Fan, available for rent for $20 for the week
  • Alarm Clock
  • Pillow(s)
  • Blanket (Sheets will be provided)
  • Toiletries
  • Towel(s)
  • Cash for snacks or a trip to the Gustavus Bookstore
  • Camera
  • Sunscreen

Camp Attire

You should plan to wear athletic or dance attire Monday through Friday of the camp. You will be highly active throughout the week and need to be able to move with comfort and freedom. Shorts, t-shirts, socks and tennis shoes are highly recommended. Tennis shoes must be worn at all times to help prevent injury. Women do not need to bring character shoes.

Performance Attire

Men: Camp t-shirt (provided), relaxed-fitting jeans (not shorts), white socks, tennis shoes
Women: Camp t-shirt (provided), jean shorts (not jeans), short white socks, tennis shoes

Without using formal costuming, the performance attire listed above will greatly enhance the visual impact of the choreography and blocking for the show. Tennis shoes should be predominantly white, if possible. Please double-check that you have the items listed above for use during our camp performance!


If you would like to bring a laptop or tablet to camp, you will have access to our wireless network, but not to a printer. Please note that it is not required to bring your laptop or tablet, as you will have access to computer labs on campus throughout the week.

Talent Show

If you would like to audition for the camp talent show, please prepare a vocal or dance selection prior to camp. A professional pianist will be provided if you need one. If you are using a karaoke-style accompaniment, please bring it on a compact disc (CD). Be sure to bring a copy of the music with you as well. Auditions will be held on Tuesday and those selected to perform will have a 20-minute coaching session on Wednesday. The talent show will be held on Thursday evening. Please plan to audition!

Third, your parent(s), family, and friends are invited to attend Saturdays performance to be held at 1:00 in Bjorling Recital Hall (in the Music Building). Admission is free of charge and open to everyone. In addition to the show choir performance, five outstanding performers from the talent show will be invited to perform during the final show.

Fourth, we have assigned a staff member to take high quality pictures for the week. We will load roughly 1,000 photos onto a 4GB flash drive for you to take home at the conclusion of the camp. The cost is $20. You will also have the opportunity to purchase a Pride (group) photo and camp photo featuring all staff and students. These photos will not be on the flash drive. The cost per photo is $5. These items need to be ordered at the time of registration. We will also have a “Camp Store” in the dorm featuring snacks that you may purchase during the week.

Fifth, pay your remaining tuition balance on Sunday, July 12 when you register on campus

Needed at the time of registration:

  • will include a $15 processing fee, we cannot accept American Express cards.
  • medical and release forms
  • order for flash drive with camp photos - $20
  • order for camp group photo and Pride photo - $5 each
  • order for fan rental - $20 for the week
