The Theatre and Dance Department at Gustavus Adolphus College is proud to present Angels in America, A Gay Fantasia on National Themes, Part I: Millennium Approaches by Tony Kushner, directed by Amy Seham. Winner of both the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award for Best Play in 1993, Angels is one of the most important masterworks of American theatre. Kushner's epic story is set amidst the AIDS epidemic of the 1980s, yet it reaches back centuries and looks forward to this millennium as it explores shifting ideas about love, faith, and power. With humor, fantasy, and powerful drama, the play asks hard questions about the rules we follow, the families we create, and the beliefs that sustain us. Witty, provocative and compassionate, Angels in America speaks to all of us.
