Description
Dr. Berard (keynote speaker of the Classical Association of Minnesota) is a talented linguist, award-winning teacher and powerful advocate of using Latin as a living language. He speaks Latin and writes in Latin (he publishes all his scholarship in Latin and is currently writing a Latin work of fiction). His lecture will offer a historical account of Latin's rise to prominence as the lingua franca of Europe, analyze the factors that contributed to its decline as a living language, and assess the current state of Perennial Latin. His presentation will also include a teaching sample of how Latin can be used as a living language in the classroom.
