Description
Dr. Karen Larson (anthropology) will speak about her recently published book, "Culture and Terror, The Jackal and the Phoenix in America." American culture produces terrorism from within. It also responds to terrorist attacks from outside. Since 9/11, America has been in a cultural haze. New levels of despair about American character are mixed with impulses toward cultural regeneration. America continues to struggle with its identity in relationship to terrorism, from coming to terms with its own snipers to reorganizing for homeland security. A book signing will follow her talk. This event is a Gustavus Adolphus College continuing education program done in cooperation with the St. Peter Community and Family Education program.
