Any students ( (listed here)) that showed up in a network scan as having the Beagle virus were sent the following email:
We believe that your computer, or a computer registered to you on the Res-Net, is infected with the W32.Beagle.B@mm virus. This virus arrived in the form of an email message with "thanks" in the subject line on 2/17/04 and contained an attachment.
Symantec Security Response has developed a removal tool to clean the infections of W32.Beagle.B@mm. This is the easiest way to remove this threat and should be tried first. The removal tool can be downloaded from Symantec at the above link (download from the link in the Obtaining and running the tool section), or from the Gustavus Virus Alerts page: .
You must disable System Restore before running the removal tool, if you are running Windows Me or XP.

The virus is a mass mailing virus, which opens a back door on the infected machine, allowing intruder access.
You must remove this virus from your machine before noon on Friday or your Internet connectivity will be shut off.
