What events are you in? Are you in both cross country and track and field?: 3K/5K (indoor); 3KS, 5K, 10K (outdoor); I am in both cross country and track and field.
Where did you go to high school?: Saint James High School
Where is your hometown?: Saint James, Minnesota
Tell me about your family (siblings, are any of your family members current/previous Gusties?): I have very supportive parents, Kari and Darrick Miest. My mom is a runner, and has done several marathons, and runs with me when I am home for the summer or breaks; she is my biggest role model. I have two younger brothers, Jackson (currently a freshman at Gustavus - runs cross country and track and field too!) and Levi (currently a freshman at Saint James High School - runs cross country and track). It was a lot of fun this summer to go on family runs :)
Tell me about your experiences so far at Gustavus: My experience has been amazing! I am so thankful that I chose to go here, because not only have I had a lot of fun with my friends and teammates, but I have grown a lot athletically and academically.
What volunteering or community service have you done in and/or out of college?: I have volunteered for Special Olympics (Basketball and Flag Football), Augustana Lutheran Church VBS, Juliette's Race, Girls on the Run, Gustavus Adolphus Move Crew, NHS Blood Drive, NHS Cash for Kids Auction, NHS Road ditch Clean-up, Multicultural Fiesta, and many more.
What other extracurricular activities, clubs, or organizations are you a part of?: I am in the Choir of Christ Chapel, on Proclaim leadership, the Gustavus Mentorship program, and GWiL.
How have these activities changed your time at Gustavus?: I think that being in these extracurricular activities has helped me grow and learn more about the world around me. These activities have also helped me develop many meaningful friendships.
Have you been a part of any movements that work for social justice or change? What are you passionate about?: I've taken part in a Climate Action March, and I am passionate about caring for the world and nature around me. In addition, this fall I signed up for a book study called the Color of Compromise, a book that addresses racism specifically within institutional Christianity. We just finished the book in December and I learned a lot from the book and from other students/faculty that participated in the organized discussions. This book study had a big impact on me, because it opened my eyes and helped me reflect on how racism was present when I was growing up in the church, and helped me identify ways in which I can take action today. I look forward to continuing this conversation in the future, specifically with our Christian student organizations and the leaders. As for what I am passionate about, I am very passionate about mental health, and resources that are available to individuals no matter where they live. I am also passionate about simply discussing and normalizing mental health/wellbeing and getting rid of the stigma surrounding these issues.

Tell me about your college academic and athletic achievements that you have earned . (Captain, All-American, all-conference, academic all-conference, etc, and include year): Gustavus Adolphus College Cross Country 2-time varsity letter recipient (2018-2020)
Why did you choose Gustavus?: I chose Gustavus because when I visited, I felt like I was home. I was really impressed by the music department, and on a visit I sat in on a class and really liked the size, and how the professor and students interacted with one another. Ultimately, I did the cross country/track overnight, and I was sold. The people here are simply amazing and I loved the team culture/atmosphere.
In your opinion what makes the Gustavus cross country/track and field programs different from other colleges?: I believe that what sets us apart from other colleges is that regardless of what event you are in, we all support each other by cheering and watching our teammates at meets. Doing this not only boosts that individual's confidence when they are competing, but it makes us a stronger team because it shows that we truly care about one another.
