Gustavus Adolphus Defeats the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 8-1 in NCAA Central Sub-Region Championship
(St. Peter, Minn., May 12, 2001) Gustavus Adolphus College, seeded first, defeated fourth seed UW-La Crosse on Sunday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. 8-1 in the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Central Region Final to advance to the NCAA Team Championships on May 18-20 at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.
Gustavus Adolphus took a 2-1 lead after the doubles portion of the match was completed. UW-La Crosse's Annete Geuder and Brea Lenart won 8-3 at No. 1 over Gustavus's Kristin Donley and Allison Kramer. Ellen Anderson and Laura Beduhn won at No. 2 for the Gusties, defeating Holly Smith and Melissa Protz 8-3. At No. 3, Jess Heiden and Kris Rosborough defeated Leah Larson and Jessica White 8-5.
Gustavus swept all six matches in singles play, as Beduhn defeated Lenart 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2, and Kramer defeated Plotz 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3. Donley defeated Larson 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5, and the other two matches went the distance. Anderson held on to defeat Geuder at No. 1 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, and Heiden came from behind to defeat Lauryn Campbell 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.
UW-La Crosse finishes the season 20-7, while Gustavus improves to 19-5.
