Sanders Named WBCA All-America Honorable Mention

Another day, another post-season honor for Anna Sanders. The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced their 2023 awards Thursday, naming a Division III Player and Coach of the Year, as well as the 2023 WBCA NCAA Division III Coaches’ All-America team. Sanders earned Honorable Mention All-America status. 50 All-Americans were announced, with 10 on the First-Team and 40 Honorable Mention Selections. Sanders is the program's first All-American since Mikayla Miller earned the same award in 2017.

Gustavus women's basketball's Anna Sanders (Sr., Vadnais Heights) and Kylie Baranick (So., Maple Grove) picked up two more post-season honors, landing themselves on the D3hoops.com All-Region list. Sanders and Baranick were both named Region 9 Third-Team, the site announced Tuesday.

The Gustavus women's basketball has had an incredible run to the top this season, claiming both MIAC championship titles, earning national recognition in the NCAA DIII top-10, and losing only two regular season games this season. That run came to an unfortunate end Saturday night, as the UW-Whitewater Warhawks ended the Gusties' season in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Gusties Lead the Way in MIAC Postseason Honors

It's safe to say Gustavus women's basketball has proven themselves to be at the top of their conference. After winning both the MIAC Regular Season and MIAC Playoff Championship, the Gusties sealed their spot at the top, leading the way with four All-Conference players and eight total post-season awards, the most of any team in the MIAC.

Following their MIAC Championship victory, the Gustavus women’s basketball team is set to take on Ohio Wesleyan in the opening round of the NCAA Championships at 5:15 p.m. Friday. The four-team regional round is hosted by UW-Whitewater with the host Warhawks taking on Webster at 7:45 p.m. Friday. The winners Friday will face each other at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, with the winner advancing to the round of 16.

Women’s Hoops Sets MIAC Record with 97 Points in Semifinal Victory

It's safe to say that the Gustie offense has had a pretty impressive season. After all, the Gusties have posted more than 75 points on 14 different occasions this year, including a season-high 91 against St. Olaf. As if 91 wasn't enough, the Gustavus women's basketball combined for 97 points, in the MIAC playoff semifinal nonetheless, to defeat Saint Benedict by a margin of 35 and punch a ticket to the MIAC Championship game.

The 2022-23 Academic All-District Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), were released Tuesday and six Gustavus student-athletes received recognition for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.

Women’s Hoops Wins Eighth Straight, Completes Sweep of Augsburg

Gustavus women's basketball, ranked No. 25 in the nation, won its eighth-straight game Saturday afternoon, defeating Augsburg 55-43, completing the MIAC sweep of the Auggies. With the win, the Gusties, who sit first in the conference, improve to 16-2 overall and 13-2 in conference play.

Sanders Named MIAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

Anna Sanders averaged 15.3 points per game, 5.7 rebounds, 3.3 steals per game, and added seven assists during the Gusties perfect week. Against Carleton, Sanders posted 17 points, eight rebounds - including seven defensive - and six steals. For her performance, Sanders was named MIAC Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week.
