Community Service and Outreach
The Gustavus Adolphus College athletic department is committed to servant leadership. Teams, individual student-athletes, coaches, and administrators are committed to community service and outreach by giving back to the surrounding community and a variety of charitable organizations.
Special Olympics and Division III
NCAA Division III has partnered with Special Olympics to improve the lives of Special Olympic athletes through their involvement with Division III student athletes. The activities pursued by student-athletes vary in each state and region, tailored to best utilize the student-athletes’ time and local resources. Special Olympic events at Gustavus include:
Little Gusties & Youth Events
Gustavus student-athletes partner with the Big Partner/Little Partner program at Gustavus to offer a fun and active event for local kids called Little Gusties. Student- athletes from a variety of sports are on hand to coach and instruct the kids in the fundamentals of the various sports and athletic activities. Kids have the opportunity to rotate through different sports stations and get a taste of each activity. This is a great way for kids to meet our student-athletes and have a great time! This event is held in the Fall.
In addition to Little Gusties, student-athletes are also involved in helping youth out in other ways through:
- Jump Rope for Heart at the Elementary School
- Flag Football Coaches
- Soccer Coaches
- Softball Clinics
- National Walk to School Event
Awareness and Special Events
Student-athletes, coaches, and teams participate in a multitude of awareness and special events throughout the year to promote servant leadership in a variety of ways. Events that have been done include:
