Gustavus Track and Field Teams Host
Inaugural Lee Krough Invitational

(St. Peter, Minn., April 13, 2001) – The Gustavus men’s and women’s track and field teams hosted the Inaugural Lee Krough Invitational on Friday, April 13 at the Lund Track and Field Complex in St. Peter. The day started out with clear skies and sunshine, but when all was said and done rain came pouring down over the new facility. Matt Thelen of Augustana (SD) won the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.67, while Jennifer Higgins of St. Cloud State won the 400-meter dash on the women’s side, recording a time of 56.67. In the 5,000-meter run Andy Sheaman of Carleton raced to a provisional National Qualifying time of 14:56.96 and a first place finish. Eve Kummerfield of Minnesota State, Mankato finished atop the women’s field in the same event with a time of 18:51.70. Lindsey Weis of Gustavus finished first in the triple jump with a distance of 10.84 meters, while teammate Jackie Luehmann finished first and set a provisional National Qualifying mark in the shot put with a distance of 12.93 meters.

The Lee Krough Invite was the first meet ever held at the College’s new $1.8 million state-of-the-art track facility. The complex contains a nine-lane 400-meter all-weather Mondo track (which is the same surface used at the 2000 Olympics in Australia), along with field event facilities that include two discus circles, two javelin runways, two shot put circles, and dual-directional pits for long jump, high jump, and pole vault.

Thirty teams from 18 different schools competed in the Inaugural Lee Krough Invitational, including all 12 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schools and Augustana (SD), Buena Vista, MSU-Mankato, South Dakota State, and St. Cloud State.
