Gustie Men Finish 30th at
2002 NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships

(St. Peter, Minn., March 23, 2002) – The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s swimming and diving team finished 30th in the nation at the 2002 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at Miami (OH) University this weekend, scoring 24.0 points.

All three Gustavus freestyle relays earned All-America Honorable Mention accolades for their performance. Nate Liddle, Nick Brase, Evan Christianson, and Will Sutor finished 10th in the 200 free relay with a school record time of 1:24.43 to earn All-America Honorable Mention. The same four paired up to set another school record (3:07.74) in the 400 free relay, and the foursome teamed up to earn All-America Honorable Mention in the 800 free relay with a time of 7:03.40. Diver Charlie Kimball finished 15th on the three meter board to earn All-America Honorable Mention with a score of 371.70.

The Gusties also won the MIAC Championship and finished the 2001-02 season 7-1 in dual meets, including a 6-0 record in MIAC meets, for their best-ever dual meet record. Gustavus also earned first place finishes in the Augustana and St. Ben’s Invitational meets as well as the South Dakota State Invite.
