Athletic Hall of Fame

The Gustavus Adolphus College Hall of Fame was established in 1978 at which time 19 "Charter Members" were inducted either as coaches or as athletes. As of the fall of 2019, 327 individuals (305 athletes, 15 coaches and 10 benefactors) have been elected to the Hall of Fame.

The beautiful Hall of Fame room on the second floor of the Lund Center was originally partially endowed by the families of both Dwight Holcombe's (the only father/son combination holding membership in the Hall). The hardwood plaque upon which the individual plates are permanently displayed was donated by the family of former football coach and Hall of Fame member Jocko Nelson, who passed away in 1978.

Renee Beaudry Scanlon

Soccer

Inducted: 2018

The face of Gustavus women’s soccer in the early 2000s, Renee Beaudry Scanlon was the best outside right wing in program history. Scanlon is one of two Gusties to have earned All-Conference honors all four seasons and was a two-time MIAC Player of the Year, receiving the honor in 2000 and 2001.

Scanlon’s smoothness and ability to turn on a dime allowed her to beat defenders one-on-one, resulting in 114 career points, which ranks second in program history. Her 45 goals and 24 assists over four seasons both rank third in the record book.

Scanlon was as durable as they come, having started all 69 games throughout her career. The Apple Valley, Minnesota native was a nightmare for the opposition and the go-to player on Gustavus teams that always posted a winning record and never finished outside the top-five in the MIAC from 1999-2002, including a second-place finish in 2000. Scanlon was awarded NSCAA All-Central Region First Team honors in 2000 and 2001, and finished her career with nine game-winning goals.

After graduating in 2003 with a degree in psychology, Scanlon obtained her associate degree in nursing from Minneapolis Technical College and has worked at Fairview Southdale Hospital as a cardiac nurse for almost 14 years. Renee lives in Apple Valley with her husband Chris, their two children, Charlie and Mollie, and their dog Finnegan Potter.
