Athletic Hall of Fame

The Gustavus Adolphus College Hall of Fame was established in 1978 at which time 19 "Charter Members" were inducted either as coaches or as athletes. As of the fall of 2022, 348 individuals (321 athletes, 16 coaches and 11 benefactors) have been elected to the Hall of Fame.

The former Hall of Fame room on the second floor of the Lund Center was originally partially endowed by the families of both Dwight Holcombe's (the only father/son combination holding membership in the Hall). The hardwood plaque upon which the individual plates are permanently displayed, now in the Hall of Champions, was donated by the family of former football coach and Hall of Fame member Jocko Nelson, who passed away in 1978.

Jeri Ree

Basketball

Inducted: 2006

One of the most prolific scorers in the history of the women's basketball program, Jeri Ree graduated in 1988 as the program's second all-time leading scorer with 1,252 points (she currently ranks third all-time). A left-handed guard with cat-quick reflexes, Ree could score from the perimeter with her smooth jump shot or in the paint with her slashing drives to the basket. In her senior season, Ree was a first team all-conference selection, finishing fourth in the league in scoring (15.8 points per game) and second in free throw percentage (74.7 percent). She set three records during her career that still stand 18 years later, including points in a game (33 vs. Sioux Falls College on 11/23/85), field goals made in a game (16 vs. Sioux Falls College on 11/23/85), and free throws made in a game (13 vs. St. Olaf on 1/23/88). She also ranks in the top five in four career statistical categories at Gustavus, including points (third with 1,252), field goals made (third with 518), free throws made (third with 216), and steals (second with 196). In addition, Ree missed only one game in her four-year career and became the first player in the program's history to play in 100 games, finishing at 101 (currently sixth all-time).

After graduating with majors in biology and general distributive sciences, Ree attended the Southern California College of Optometry and earned a doctor of optometry degree in 1992. While in optometry school, she received a scholarship from the U.S. Army, and after graduation she served four years as an optometrist at Fort Huachuca in Arizona. For the past 11 years she has worked as an independent contractor serving as the optometrist at Sears and J.C. Penney stores in Flagstaff, Ariz. Jeri lives in Flagstaff with her partner, Kat Jim.
