Athletic Hall of Fame
The Gustavus Adolphus College Hall of Fame was established in 1978 at which time 19 "Charter Members" were inducted either as coaches or as athletes. As of the fall of 2022, 348 individuals (321 athletes, 16 coaches and 11 benefactors) have been elected to the Hall of Fame.
The former Hall of Fame room on the second floor of the Lund Center was originally partially endowed by the families of both Dwight Holcombe's (the only father/son combination holding membership in the Hall). The hardwood plaque upon which the individual plates are permanently displayed, now in the Hall of Champions, was donated by the family of former football coach and Hall of Fame member Jocko Nelson, who passed away in 1978.
Calvin Roberts
Football

Calvin W. Roberts '53 was selected to the All Conference team for three consecutive years - 1949-1950-1951 - and is the only Gustavus graduate to be named Little All American for two years, receiving that honor in 1951 and 1952. He was drafted by the New York Giants in 1953 but illness terminated his professional career. He served for 4 years in the U.S. Marines prior to enrolling at Gustavus and was named All Marine Corps for his play as tackle with the El Toro Marines. Coach Hollingsworth has called him the finest tackle he's ever coached.
He served as line coach at Augsburg College following graduation while employed as a phy. ed. teacher for the Minneapolis Public Schools. He became elementary physical education supervisor for the City of St. Louis Park and served in that capacity until his untimely death on March 3, 1966. In 2003, Cal was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
