Shannon McGee ’96 Inducted 2013
Shannon McGee was one of the elite all-around competitors for the Gustavus gymnastics program during the Gusties incredible run of five national championships in the mid- 1990s. McGee helped the Gusties claim two of those national titles in 1993 and 1994. Highly recruited out of Austin, Texas, McGee seemed bred for the spotlight of big meets with her cool demeanor and unshakable concentration. She set the tone for her collegiate career by becoming the sixth Gustavus gymnast to win the national all-around title at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championships in 1993. She also placed third on the balance beam and fourth on the uneven bars to become a three-time All-American in her first year with the program. Lean and acrobatic with grace and class, Shannon was a technical master and solid competitor in every event. She earned a total of seven All-America honors over her career—three times in the all-around, twice on the floor exercise, and once each on the uneven parallel bars and balance beam. She was named the NCGA Senior Athlete of the Year in 1996 and was named the Minnesota Sports Channel Division III Female Athlete of the Year in May of that same year.
Since graduating cum laude in 1996 with a degree in accounting, McGee has worked at Cargill in a number of accounting and financial roles. She earned her MBA from the University of Minnesota in 2004 and has served several short-term assignments in London. Shannon is currently a financial adviser within Cargill's Corporate Financial Reporting department and lives in Maple Grove with her son, Alex.
