Wally Johnson '42 was center on the Gustavus basketball team during the years 1938-42 and was All MIAC his soph. , jr. & sr. years. He was captain of the '41-42 team. He also played right end for the '39, '40 & '41 football teams, & also lettered in fresh football in '38. His sr. year he received the Schleuder Medal for athletic/scholarship/leadership excellence. From 1942-79 he was employed in various capacities with the Federal Communications Comnission including Chief of the Existing Facilities Branch, Chief of the New & Changed Facilities Branch, Chief of the Broadcast Facifities Div., Asst. Chief of the Broadcast Bureau, and as Chief of the Broadcast Bureau (1971-79). He did graduate work at Gee. Wash. Univ. and Fed, Exec. Institute. Since '79 he has been Exec. Director of Assn. for Broadcast Engineering Standards, and partner in a consulting radio engineers firm.
Very active in the LCA he presently serves on the board of Luth. Theological Southern Seminary and is chairman of the Council for Ministry; Virginia Synod. His professional activities have included chair of the Nat'l Radio Systems Committee '80-'82), U.S. delegate or rep. at int'l meetings in Buenos Aires, Brazil, Geneva, Mexico and Rio de Janeiro during 1981, and service on Federal Communication Advisory Committee on Radio Broadcasting, A member of AFCCE and Broadcast Engineers, and a Fellow of Society of Broadcast; Engineers, Inc., he received a Distin- guished Alumni Citation from Gustavus in '75, and was recipient of the '81 Nat'l Assn. of Broadcasters Engineering Award. Wally and his wife Peggy have a daughter Gayle and son Wally, 3r., and live in Falls Church, Virginia.
