Arvid Hagberg ’29 Inducted 1985


Arvid   Hagberg

A native of Buffalo Lake Minnesota, where he enjoyed an Outstanding high school career, Swede Hagberg made his mark at Gustavus in basketball. He lettered for three years on the basketball squad and as leading scorer in the Minnesota Conference in his senior year, he was the top vote-getter in the coaches' balloting for the all-conference team. He also lettered in football for the Gusties.
Hagberg received his B.A in 1929, majoring in natural sciences and social studies. Following his graduation from Gustavus, Swede spent the next twenty years in the field of education, as coach, principal, and superintendent at, Winnebago, Huntley, Amboy and Mabel, Minnesota.
In 1948 he accepted a postion with the old State Board of Parole, rising to area supervisor based in Rochester as the Minnesota Department of Corrections developed. In 1971 he was named Minnesota Corrections Man of the Year. Swede and hls wife, Hazel, are now retired and reside in Golden Valley.
