Cody (85 goals,100 assists) and linemates Steve Hansen (85 goals, 103 assists) and Jim Williams (81 goals, 97 assists) combined to score 251 goals with 300 assists for a total of 551 points and are unofficially the third-highest scoring line in the history of small college hockey. He was named co-Most Valuable Player by his teammates as well as being selected All-Conference, All-NAIA National Tournament, and All-America (by both the NAIA and the American Hockey Coaches Association). He is one of only 12 Gustavus hockey players to have been named All-Conference in three of his four seasons. In addition to his success on the rink, Cody was an accomplished golfer who lettered his junior and senior seasons. In 1978, Cody finished fourth at the MIAC Championships; earning All-Conference honors, and helping the Gusties win the league title. Later that spring, Cody and his teammates posted the golf program's first national finish as they placed 16th (out of 32 teams) at the NAIA Championships.
After graduating in 1978 with a major in business, Cody joined Office Machines Sales and Service as a sales representative, he has worked there for the past 23 years. He has remained active in hockey coaching in the Roseville youth program for the past 11 years. Mike currently lives in Roseville with his wife, Janelle, and their three children, Collin (17), Britt (15), and Erin (13).
