Roger   Carlson

Roger W. Carlson '54 was All Minn. Valley Conference fullback and Conference track low hurdle champion his senior year at University High School. A member of the championship football teams of '57, '52 & '53 at Gustavus, he was named All MIAC fullback in '52 and '53, and Little All America in 1953. He called both offensive and defensive p7ays in '52 & '53, and his senior year was cocaptain, was named MIAC and Gustavus Most Valuable Player, and was recipient of the Paulson Award. He also served as Student Senate.. V.P. and was recipient of the St. Ansgar Award for leadership, participation and scholarship.
In 1954, Roger tried out with the Green Bay Packers. He then served as a U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps Agent 1955-57. In 1957 he became Director of Sales & Operations for Central Warehouse Co., St. Paul, and in 1966 became V.P./Manufacturing for Marquette Corp., Minneapolis. Since 1970 he has been President of Space Center, Inc., Distribution Services Division, St. Paul. He served as president of American Warehousemen's Assn. 1977-78, was board member and V.P, of St. Paul YMCA 1970-80, and currently serves on boards of his church, Roseville State Bank, Minnesota Citizens Council on Crime & Justice, and Bethesda Hospital Foundation.
An active alumnus, he was president of the Minneapolis Hilltoppers 1959-60, served as Class Agent 1954-60, and was a member of the Health, Physical Education & Athletic Complex Building Committee at Gustavus. Roger and his wife Janet (Christenson) '53 have a daughter and three sons - Kristin 79, Bradley '81, Steven, and Douglas '85, and live at 2706 Mackubin, St. Paul.
