Class of 2010
Greetings Class of 2010!
Welcome to the first of many class letters! Class letters are a great way to stay in contact with other classmates, share news and events from on campus and off, as well as share your news: new jobs, travel adventures, weddings, births, etc. As your new class agents, we wanted to take a moment to introduce ourselves.
I am Katie Cummings and I am from Aitkin, Minnesota, which is 30 minutes outside of Brainerd. I will be returning there for the summer and searching for full time employment in September, hopefully I’ll move down to the Twin Cities area. I am graduating with a major in management, so I am very open to different job opportunities. In my free time this summer I will be out on the boat or watching softball games and grilling! If you’re in the Brainerd area this summer look me up and we can get together!
Congratulations! Graduating is a huge milestone within one’s life and it is only the beginning of your journey in life. My name is Casey Enevoldsen. I am very excited to begin serving our class in the capacity of a class agent. Throughout my experience at Gustavus, I was involved in the Men’s Swimming and Diving Team, Epsilon Pi Alpha Fraternity, Inter-Greek Senate, Big Partner Little Partner, Service Leadership Cohort, and the Society of Human Resource Management. Be on the lookout for more of these class letters to keep up on the lives of your classmates.
My name is Cathryn Nelson and I am a daughter, big sister, friend, and about to graduate with a degree in psychology. I love playing tennis and softball along with going for walks and rollerblading. I also really enjoy reading for fun and cooking fun new recipes with my roommates. My past four years at Gustavus have given me incredible experiences that have really helped define my values, goals, and who I am as a person. I have made so many wonderful friends and acquaintances here and can’t wait for our first class reunion celebration to see you all again!
My name is Sara Schnell and I am a financial economics and political science double major from Corcoran, MN. During my time at Gustavus I have been involved in a number of activities including the Delta Phi Omega Sorority, the Elders Program, Inter-Greek Senate, and the Senior Class Legacy. This summer I will be moving to St. Louis Park and starting as a business analyst at Target. In my free time I will be heading to the cabin and relaxing with my friends and family.
My name is Derek Holm and I am proud to be chosen as one of our class agents. I was previously involved on campus as the Student Senate Co-President, a singer with Gustavus Choir, proud participant of Curriculum II, and a past member of the Diving team. I'm kicking my year following graduation off with some work on campus with Gustavus Technology Services, and after that I’m excited to get started with my next big career move! I hope you all have a great summer, and don’t forget to keep in touch!
My name is Mariah Bierl and I am a management major from Wanda, MN. While at Gustavus I have been involved with the Senior Class Legacy Committee, Big Partner/Little Partner, Wednesday Friends on Monday, Investment Club, Lambda Alpha Nu and Intramural Sports. I will be spending my summer working in Minneapolis planning children’s camps and cheering on the Twins at Target Field.
I'm so excited to be one of the class agents! My name is Jenn Syverson and I am a nursing major from Apple Valley, MN. During my time at Gustavus I have been involved in numerous activities and events. These include: the Delta Phi Omega Sorority, became the founder of the First Fibromyalgia Awareness Dinner and Silent Auction in the mid west, one of the lead singers in proclaim, was a part of the elite peer assistants program and have volunteered with various community services programs. This summer I will be moving to Apple Valley, studying for boards, and nannying AND hopefully landing a job at Children’s Pediatric Oncology Clinic.
Hi ya'll! My name is Katelyn Johnson, and I am a communication studies major, hailing from Midlothian, Texas right outside of Dallas. During my four incredible years at Gustavus, I spent my time singing in the Gustavus Choir, welcoming first year students as a Gustie Greeter, being a proud member of Theta Xi Gamma sorority, and helping to plan the College’s upcoming Sesquicentennial celebration in 2012. I’m excited to head home for the summer to see my family, work as a cart girl on the golf course, and get some Texas sunshine. After that, my plans will take me to the Netherlands in the fall, where I’ll be working for another Gustie alum. Upon my return to the States, I will be putting down some roots in the Twin Cities and starting my job in January as an analyst at Stockamp & Associates, a healthcare management consulting company. I am thrilled to help keep our class connected to each other and to Gustavus!
My name is Alison Utke and I am a financial economics and political science double major from Park Rapids, MN. During my four years at Gustavus, I’ve been a member of the women’s tennis team, served as controller of Student Senate, been a part of the Senior Legacy committee, and have been active in several other groups and organizations on campus. In my spare time, I like to play tennis, play piano, golf, and travel. This summer I will be working at Citizens National Bank in northern Minnesota, but plan on relocating to the East Coast in the fall to pursue a career in finance.
I’m an adventure junkie and a world cultures enthusiast with a list of “25 things to do before I’m 25.” I’ve completed most things on my list like skydiving and to becoming a certified scuba diver on the Great Barrier Reef, but there are still a few things to do. And for some reason I ended up at Gustavus Adolphus College in St Peter, Minnesota?! I’m Tara Blinn, graduating with an international business management major and French minor. Four years later, I have stayed busy with Delta Phi Omega sorority, Lambda Alpha Nu business fraternity, Inter-Greek Senate, Women’s Rugby, and La Sociéte Française. I’m looking forward to a new future as a management consultant at Genesis10, but most of all to have excuses to participate in “reunions” at Williams Uptown Pub.
As I look back on my time at Gustavus, I am very thankful for all of the people I’ve met along the way who have made my experience so meaningful. From my fellow loud and bubbly Gustie Greeters, to the communication studies and management majors that I have shared so many classes with, to my Dance Company friends who have always been there for me, so many people have impacted my Gustavus experience. Now looking forward, I am planning on moving back to Bloomington, MN to search for a job and career path that I’m really passionate about. During the summer, I love staying active, going to concerts, spending time with my friends, and trying to find the best ice cream spots in the Twin Cities. I hope everyone enjoys their summer. Whether you’re starting a job or trying to figure out your next step, be sure to stay in touch with your Class Agents. We’d love to hear from you! ~Jennifer Broman
Matt Schueffner here. If you don’t know who I am, let me introduce myself...I am a communication studies major and music minor from Stillwater, MN. Over my years at Gustavus, I was involved in a number of different activities, ranging from the Senior Class Legacy crew to Gustavus' break dance club. Most notably, I was a member of the Gustie Greeters, in the Gustavus Choir (as well as other choirs and ensembles), and Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity (SAE). I am very excited for all the fun we will have during senior week here on campus, and am pumped to be spending so much time with my closest friends here at Gustavus. After graduation, I will be working on campus for the summer, so if you come back and visit, make sure you stop in and say hello!
A few notes from the Office of Alumni Relations….welcome to the Gustavus Alumni Association! We are so excited to welcome the Class of 2010! Don’t forget to update your information including address, email address, schooling and employment. You can e-mail us at email@example.com or e-mail your class agents at firstname.lastname@example.org. We would prefer to send class letters via e-mail, so don’t forget to either forward your @gustavus email or let us know your new email. You can also submit your news and photos at gustavus.edu/alumni/submit. It is a great place to share your wedding, baby, and random Gustie encounter photos.
Finally, there will be Gustavus picnics this summer in Sioux Falls, Omaha, Des Moines, Grand Rapids, Mankato, the Twin Cities, St. Cloud, Moorhead an Willmar! We would love to see you at one of these events─check the college calendar for more details or watch for a postcard in the mail (yet another great reason to keep your address up to date).
As you drive down the hill as graduates in just a few short days, take a moment to reflect on the last four years and all of the good memories you’ve created. They say that these are the best four years of our lives, so cherish it! Although for many of us graduation is bittersweet, our education and opportunities have prepared us to take that next step, regardless of whether that is graduate school, a job, or even just taking some time off. Whatever the future holds, we look forward to hearing your updates! Let us know what is going on in your world so we can share it with your classmates and the College. And, be sure to check out our very own class website– gustavus.edu/alumni/class/2010. It’s a big change going from a student to alumni, but the real world is ready and waiting. In the words of the great Dr. Seuss, “Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So…get on your way!”
Congratulations Class of 2010!
