Class of 2004

June 2014

Greetings 2004 Classmates,

I would first like to apologize for my absence.  I missed the deadlines for the last two Quarterly submissions─big fail and I apologize.  I used to get a reminder and that fell off and I meant to set it back up and you know the story.  That’s my excuse.  I know you have had exciting things happen in your life that most likely outshine all other classes (I’m being humble here) and I feel really bad about not getting to show that off, I mean to share, those things with the remainder of the Gustavus community.  But don’t worry I will make sure all of your accomplishments are highlighted in the next Quarterly!  So, send them my way!  You can email them to 2004classofficers@gustavus.edu (Gustavus and I will both receive it) or directly to me at me at sannenel@gmail.com or send them to me on Facebook.

Now that we’ve gotten that formality out of the way, we have something very important to discuss:  Our 10-Year Reunion!  Pull out your finest because I want to see YOU struttin’ into the caf on October 4.  Our committee – Dan Myers, Andrea Wellman Kath, Mark Apfelbacher, Dan Norgaard and Beth Boser – have been planning the big event.  Details are not finalized but this is kind of what we know:

Date:  October 4, 2014

Location:  Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, MN

Time:  ALL WEEKEND – ok, sort of a joke, but I encourage you all to make a weekend of it.  A firm agenda will be provided at a later date, but here is a rough timeline to consider:

11am-ish - Beer Tent opens near football field

1pm-ish - Game Starts

5pm-ish - 2004 Alumni gather for cocktails and appetizers in Alumni Hall

As I said above, we are still working on the grand plan so this will change and we’ll keep you posted as we finalize the events of what promises to be a very fun day!

I also genuinely ask you to consider making a gift to Gustavus this year.  Our goal for our reunion year is to have 50% participation.  Knowing what a rock star class we are I know we can meet this goal.  Some things to know about giving:

  • It does not matter how big or small your gift is.  Every gift counts!
  • You can designate your funds to specific departments to include academic, sports and student activities.  Your gift does not have to go to the General Fund.  You have the power to give to the part of Gustavus that meant the most you!  Exercise that power!
  • You can give easily online at https://gustavus.edu/give/.  If you are marking your donations for a specific department, please note this in the comments section.  If you aren’t comfortable with that, call Robyn Rost, Assistant Director of Alumni and Parent Engagement at 507-933-6514.
Finally, if you are considering making it a weekend in St. Peter or staying overnight please consider booking a room.  Gustavus has reserved blocks of rooms at several hotels in Mankato.  For details, visit https://gustavus.edu/alumni/gather/homecoming.php. You can also try these local places:

1.  AmercInn (http://www.americinn.com/Hotels/MN/StPeter)

2.  Konsbruck Hotel (http://www.konsbruckhotel.com/)

3.  St. Peter Camping (http://www.saintpetermn.gov/camping)

More to come on a more regular basis from me and the Reunion Committee. See you soon!
