Class of ’89
Happy New Year!
Duebs here again with a quick update from the class of ’89. Hope your holidays and the start to 2012 is going well.
I have very exciting news to share. Faith Farrell has volunteered to be your new Communications Chair! She is excited to get started even though she is currently in the process of moving to Atlanta. Thank her and show her some southern hospitality if you run into her down south.
Francie [Pawelk Mocchi], Scotty [Anderson], and I are happy to continue to work with Faith as your class officers for now, but we are still looking for help in the following roles:
- Annual Fund Chair – help develop a culture of philanthropy for Gustavus within each member so they will participate in the Gustavus Annual Fund.
- Student Recruitment Chair - responsible for engaging classmates in recommending to Gustavus, quality high school students and recruiting classmates to participate in the Gustavus Recruitment Network program.
- Reunion/Event Planning Committee – help with reunion and non-reunion event planning.
Speaking of non-reunion event planning, we have a J-Term Getaway planned for January 28. It will be held at Gustavus along with the classes of 1987 and 1988. It sounds like a fantastic chance to get down to St. Peter, check out the campus, watch some sporting events, and share some libations with other alumni. See below for details and contact info.
I’d also like to put in a plug for the Gustavus Alumni Mentoring and Business Leadership Program. This is the second year of the program that pairs up a student with an alumni mentor. I’m currently involved and it’s a great opportunity to meet students and share our vast wisdom. When this program is seeking alumni mentors for next year, don’t hesitate to apply!
We have had a serious lack of news for the Class of ’89 lately. Be sure to submit any class news to the Alumni Office at email@example.com or online via the Gustavus website at https://gustavus.edu/alumni/submit/. We really are interested in what you’re doing!
Look for a class notes, news, plans, and updates to be shared in the Class of ’89 section of the Quarterly in the future. Also, I’m hoping Faith will be sending out the next, super-exciting class letter, with or without a song or poem.
Faith Farrell is joining our class rep crew
To help communicate with all of you.
She’s moving to a world of “y'all” and “yes m’am.”
So if you visit her bring her some SPAM.
Have a fantastic winter and hope to hear from all of you! Go Gusties!

The Gustie J-Term Getaway 2012
The Gustavus Class Officers of 1987, 1988, and 1989 are teaming up to create opportunities for late ’80s alumni to gather more often. The first of these gatherings will take place on January 28, 2012 back on the Hill in Saint Peter.
Experience the “Caf” of today's Gusties at the Market Place located in the Jackson Campus Center. This is not Ma Young’s ’80s cuisine. We will have an area in the Market Place identified for us Rustie Gusties beginning at 11:30 a.m. Those who wish to partake in the experience are asked to RSVP to Woody Bachman ’88 at firstname.lastname@example.org by Tuesday, January 24.
Tours of the new Beck Academic Hall will be available at 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Tours will depart from the center atrium of Beck Hall for those who are interested. No RSVP necessary.
Take in one of three sporting events that afternoon:
Women's Basketball − 1 p.m.
Men's Hockey − 2 p.m.
Men's Basketball − 3 p.m.
We will have a common location in Lund Center to gather during the games. Around 4:00 p.m. we’ll gather for libations at the Flame. Those interested in a more sophisticated fare may wish to gather at Patrick’s on Third or Whiskey River.
We look forward to seeing those of you who can make it. Be on the lookout for future gatherings in the Cities, as well as, back on the Hill!
