Class of '86
20-Year Reunion ― October 6 & 7, 2006
This will likely be the shortest and most important class letter of the year… We want to provide you with important information on our upcoming 20th anniversary class reunion! Be sure you’re in St. Peter on October 7th, 2006!
We have an amazing host of activities arranged for you―by an equally amazing planning committee (with particular thanks to Dave Meyers, Melinda Moen Batz, Leslie Boyer Dwyer, Ann Wilsey Gesme, Jim Isaak, and Lisa Johnson Wentz!!).
Based on registrations to date, it looks like everyone is registered but YOU. Seriously though, right now we’re expecting well over 100 people at this point and assume that number will go up considerably.
Several things you’ll need to know:
Dress code is CASUAL. We’ve ordered “nice weather” and “beautiful fall colors”, so everything should be set in that regard.
The downtown St. Peter AmericInn is booked solid, but there is availability at some of the south-end hotels. If you need a room (particularly for Saturday night), check out:
St. Peter Motel
Highway 169 North
Minnesota River Inn (St. Peter)
1321 South Minnesota Avenue
Viking Jr. Motel (St. Peter)
Jct. Highway 169 & 99
Best Western Garden Inn (Mankato)
AmericInn Motel (Mankato)
240 Stadium Rd.
Budget Host Inn (Mankato)
Best Value Inn (Mankato)
Hwy. 14 & 169
Comfort Inn (Mankato)
131 Apache Place
Country Inn & Suites (Mankato)
1900 Premier Road
We will be holding several of our major class events at the Class of 1986 Tent which will be centered right in the Mall between the Caf, Admin. and Christ Chapel next to Old Main.
As most of you know, we’ve lost some wonderful ’86 classmates along the way. We will have a special memorial board for all of them at the Tent. In addition, Julie Pinomaki is spearheading a presentation of some of the beautiful and unique artwork of Shawn Spurgin. Many people have different items or doodles that Shawn produced over the years. If you would be willing to include yours, please send me a note at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Immediately following the reunion weekend, Laura Peterson Olson has volunteered to produce and distribute the first class “Plimp” Sheet in more than 20 years. She’ll be keeping tabs and notes on all the goings-on over the reunion weekend and providing an insider’s viewpoint a la Joan Rivers…
You’ll experience great(?) flashbacks of all your favorite ’80s artists, such as: The Clash, Meatloaf, Prince, Van Morrison, Billy Idol, Talking Heads, Romantics, etc. While Ann Wilsey Gesme is providing lots of great song suggestions, we’ll primarily be relying on R. J. Sass―as a charter member of the Lover Boy Fan Club―to get us some musical goodies…
We’ll also have a running trivia contest and prizes during dinner…Be sure to bone up on important recollections. (Sure you can remember your CF’s name from freshman year, but what about senior year? Do you recall the name of our senior year QB? Do you know who in our class has a regular show on XM Radio? Can you accurately recount the number of times that either Al Farnell or Jim Isaak was listed on J-Board? Me neither.)
We have invited a number of our old professors to join us for part of the Saturday evening festivities. It should be very interesting to reflect back with these folks on why you got a B instead of an A in poli sci.
