40-Year Reunion ― September 28, 2013

Greetings Class of ’73 Gusties:

This is the final call for registration for our 40th Reunion.  We have classmates from Washington, D.C. to California who have registered but we are sadly lacking many of our Minnesotan Gusties.  A couple of our classmates have not been on campus for 40 years so I think that they would be eager to see as many of their classmates as possible.  That means that YOU need to register and come if at all possible!  One of our classmates who will remain nameless told me ”if I can buy a plane ticket to come, what is wrong with the rest of our classmates in the Midwest?”  Only YOU have the answer.  As of September 19, we have a total of 25:

This is our last request!  Please register by the 23rd!  Online registration is easy or call the Alumni Office (800-487-8437) and ask for Erin Wilken or Philly Kauffmann, they would be happy to help you.  The people above have paid their $50 registration fee.  They are committed!  How about you?  It’s your presence that will make this a success!

What a great request!  Gregg and I are not the reunion chairs but instead the Annual Fund Co-Chairs and we haven’t even asked for money.  What that means is that the important part of the reunion is having YOU there!  If you are one of the 25 who have registered THANK YOU!  For the rest of you - September 28th on campus.  Fifty dollars for the entire day.  Check-in at The Dive around 10:00 a.m.

There will be a service at 10:00 a.m. in Christ Chapel to honor the Gusties who we have lost this past year if you are interested.  Lunch will be served at noon in The Dive.  Football game if you are interested or stay to just catch up with your classmates in The Dive.  Campus Tours will be available later in the afternoon.

Our social hour (cash bar) will begin at 5:30 followed by dinner at 6:30 in one of the Jackson Center banquet rooms.  We expect to wrap things up around 8:30 but the dining room is ours until midnight.  If you are planning to drive home afterward, you won’t be late unless to want to stay visit more!

That’s it from the Duncan’s!  Safe travels to all who are coming!  The road to Gustavus will only get longer as we age so how about we aim to get there while it is still an easy trip!

Onward and upward, Gusties!  Register today!

President Ohle Announces Retirement

Jack R. Ohle, the 16th President of Gustavus Adolphus College, has announced his retirement effective at the end of the 2013-14 academic year when he will complete his sixth year as president of the College.  He began his service to Gustavus on July 1, 2008, and will officially retire on June 30, 2014.  Ohle submitted, and the Board accepted, a letter announcing his retirement to the Board of Trustees at its June.  The Board of Trustees has initiated a search to find President Ohle’s successor who will begin serving the College in the summer of 2014.

Welcome Class of 2017

There are over 640 students in this year’s class of first-years, and 19 percent of the class are legacy students, meaning they have had a parent, grandparent or sibling attend Gustavus.  We are so excited for all of our new students to start making their own Gustavus experiences in the weeks to come.
