Class of '73
Holiday greetings from Gustavus!
Christmas in Christ Chapel was celebrated this past weekend along with the emotional finale, “O Come All Ye Faithful.” First-year students and their parents may have heard it for the first time, seniors with tears in their eyes performed it for their last time, and thousands of alumni returned to experience it once again. Capsulated in that moment is so much of what makes Gustavus special―it’s about family and friends, welcoming new members into the Gustavus family, remembering our past and being a part of the present.
The Gustavus family is dependent on you, our faithful alumni who support Gustavus with your gifts, your time, and prospective students. As classmates and members of the Gustie family, please consider Gustavus with your support this season.
Most of the class news we’ve received is published in the recent Quarterly and we would like to include much more in future issues. Please use the enclosed envelope to send us your news and support. Some items of interest from campus are included below. Our College is doing well.
Gustavus Designated an “All Steinway School”
Steinway and Sons, makers of what many would say are the best pianos, has added Gustavus to its “All Steinway Schools” list. This is an exclusive list of just 66 colleges, universities, or conservatories in the world. To be considered for the Steinway designation, a school must first have at least 90 percent of its performance, practice, and teaching pianos be Steinways.
Gustavus Excels in Fitness and Dining
Men’s Fitness magazine has named Gustavus as one of the top 10 colleges in America for fitness. Among the things considered in the rankings were nutrition and dining choices, whether physical fitness is included in the curriculum, and availability of workout equipment. They also examined individual student responses to questions on topics such as alcohol consumption, tobacco use, fast-food indulgence, and exercise habits. On a related note, the Gustavus Dining Service was listed in the top 10 in a U.S. News and World Report survey on the best campus food in America. On that note, enjoy the holiday season but get your exercise in!
