Changes in Thrivent’s Charitable Giving

This month Thrivent Financial will roll out its new charitable grant program, which allows eligible members to help Thrivent Financial direct distributions as part of its charitable giving each year.  This new program is called Thrivent Choice.  Thrivent Choice will replace Thrivent’s current matching gift program.  Eligible Thrivent members will receive a letter from Thrivent in August, explaining the amount of Choice Dollars that they will have to designate for 2010.  You can also visit Thrivent’s’ website to find out more about the program.  Please keep Gustavus in mind when you are designating your Choice Dollars.

Gustavus Rated Top College

Gustavus Adolphus College is once again rated a top college in The Princeton Review’s guidebook, The Best 373 Colleges, 2011 Edition.  This annual ranking, released Aug. 2, 2010, is based solely on input from college students.  The educational services publication recognizes 373 colleges in the nation for offering outstanding academics and great campus experiences.  Gustavus was also ranked among 152 Midwest colleges that The Princeton Review recognized as “Best Colleges: Region by Region.”  As in past years, the publication also gave the College high marks for campus food, ranking it 18th nationally in that category.

150th Anniversary Commemorative Alumni Directory

The Gustavus Alumni Association is bringing together about 25,000 Gusties to celebrate the College’s 150th anniversary.  In partnership with Publishing Concepts, Inc. (PCI), Gustavus will produce the 150th Anniversary Commemorative Alumni Directory.  Over the next couple of months, PCI will be contacting Gustavus alumni via phone, mail, and e-mail to request that you update your information.

Nobel Conference 46 – “Making Food Good”

Few issues resonate with people around the world more than the need for good food.  Our choices related to diet, farming, and processing are inextricably linked to human health and the health of planetary ecosystems.  Considerable public debate swirls around such issues as genetic modification and food security.  Seven distinguished presenters will offer thought-provoking looks into what makes food good─from the scientific and ethical aspects to esthetic, ecological, and economic considerations.  You are welcome to join the conversation!  For more conference information, visit gustavus.edu/nobelconference.  Tickets may be ordered online from gustavustickets.com or by phone at 507-933-7520.  Note: mail orders are no longer accepted.
