Class of '97
January 1999

With the advent of the new year, we have seen a return to the bitterly cold winters that we once new as Gusties on January Term. Ahhh, January Term was definitely a good time, wasn’t it? Get this, the admissions office actually refers to J-Term as an opportunity for intense study. Which would you rather do, work full-time when you can only see the sun from the window behind the cubicle, which is behind the wall of your boss’ office, or have the opportunity to enjoy the truly enlightening experience of taking courses such as "Laminated Paper Art", "French Songs and Singers", "Islamic Politics", or "Weight Lifting and its People"? Gusties are taking classes, travelling the globe, performing music, and creating art during January Term 1999.

Senior Class Gift

No matter what classes current Gusties are taking, you can be sure that they are enjoying the water filters that have been installed in the dorms thanks to our ‘97 Class Gift ! Yes, that’s right, the support that we were able to give to the college as our "going away present" became a reality this year. During the cold of winter, Gusties don’t have to cross the winter tundra just to get fresh water.

GUSTAVUS FUND

As we approach March 29, 1999, we come upon a significant anniversary. This college survived the most devastating natural disaster that an educational institution has ever seen. Believe it or not, many believed that our Gustavus would not be able to survive. Thanks to the outpouring of support, the rebuilding of a greater Gustavus is well underway. Year to date, 10% of our class has contributed to the Gustavus Fund. Thanks for your continued commitment to the college, keep up the good work. We have set a goal as a class to reach 40% participation in alumni giving. Now, more than ever, Gustavus needs its alumni support for its students, reconstruction and overall well-being of the college. We are all still fresh out of college, so we don’t expect much. If you feel that the College served you well during your life at Gustavus, please say thanks and show your support.
