25-YearReunion

Reunion dates ― October 12 &13, 2007

Dear Classmates,

The fall air is upon us in Minnesota.  Last night watching a few plays of the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens game on Monday Night Football, and seeing the snow falling in Colorado has prompted me to get the fall 2006 class letter in the mail before the first snow falls in Edina―I consider this the winter class letter.

I am happy to report that a number of our classmates met on September 9 to start the planning process for (drum-roll) our 25th Class Reunion!  The date for the Reunion is October 12 - 13, 2007.  So, SAVE THE DATES.

The initial plan calls for an informal gathering at a hotel in Mankato on Friday, October 12.  Jane McDowell-Johnson is chairing the Event Committee.  The committee is lining up a hotel, a block of rooms, and a room for everyone to meet and socialize.  On Saturday, October 13, the plan calls for brunch in the Johnson Student Union, and then an afternoon at the new football stadium where we watch our Golden Gusties from a tent near the field.  That evening is open for informal gatherings at some of the nicer spots that St. Peter has to offer―the Flame, Whiskey River, Embassy, Willy’s or my favorite, The Redman Club.

What I am trying to organize is an up-to-date class list of e-mails so contacting everyone is quicker.  Therefore, would you please take a minute and send an e-mail to the Alumni Office at alumni@gustavus.edu and provide your e-mail address.  The office will forward those addresses on to the Committee so we can be in contact with you.

I am also sending out the first notice that we want pictures that you may have taken during your time on the Hill.  The Communication Committee, hopefully chaired by our Sports Information Director―Tim Kennedy, will be putting together a disc, set to our favorite music of the late ’70s and early ’80s.  Maybe we should have Jim Bjork start compiling the music.  He always did a fine job and banquets and such.  If you want to send them to me at:  5408 Brookview Avenue, Edina, MN  55424, I will have them scanned and sent back to you.  Please remember to put your name on the back of the pictures.

It is not too late to get involved in the class reunion planning.  The committee can use more ideas, more volunteers, and it is a great way to encourage our classmates to make an effort to come back to Gustavus Adolphus College and recall the wonderful times we shared.

Finally, I have had the great fortune of spending 2-3 days a week since May with Carrie Nelson Levine as our sons are on the same soccer team.  She reads our class letters and informed me that she had some news regarding one of our classmates―Becky Long Stradiotto.  Becky has been living in Napa, CA, for many years with husband, Ron, and daughters Allison and Jocelyn.  She’s finally pursuing her dream to establish her own private label vintage.  St. Rebecca Cabernet and St. Rebecca Chardonnay will hopefully be added to your favorite wine list any day soon.

Speaking of Jim Bjork, after 16 years with Uponor, Inc., Jim has resigned as executive vice president to pursue other interests.

Marcia Page and her family have returned home from a year in London, where she helped establish a London branch of Värde Partners.  But the big news was the induction in the Gustavus Adolphus Athletic Hall of Fame of Marcia’s husband, John Huepenbecker ’80 on September 30, 2006.  Many of his teammates and family members were on hand to watch.

Tim Dittberner ran the Twin Cities Marathon last weekend in a time of 3:30.  Atta’ boy, Ditt!

I always like to reach out and mention my former roommate―Tom Swansson.  He likes it when I mention him in the class letter―not.

I saw Susie Erickson Peterson at the Hall of Fame Induction and she reminded me that her daughter, Laura, is a student at Gustavus.  Susie has always been so nice and is one my favorite people.  Brett Aamot’s daughter, Bria, is also a first-year student.  It would be interesting to see how many of our classmates have children at Gustavus.  Let me know.

Well that is all I have time for.  Keep in touch and do good work.

PS.       Gustavus was included in a USA Today article on “10 Great Places to Tour Swedish America.”  The September 8 article listed Gustavus as one of the top 10 Swedish-American destinations in the nation and included a photo of Old Main in the winter (taken by Anders Björling’58).

PSS.    Gustavus Adolphus College was named one of the “fittest” colleges in the nation (sixth) by Men’s Fitness magazine.  Gustavus is the only Minnesota college in the list of 25 institutions noted in the magazine’s November issue.

PSSS. Christmas in Christ Chapel is December 1-3.  Better get your tickets now.
