40-Year Reunion

Reunion dates ― October 3 &4, 2008

Greetings ’68 Classmates,

We certainly hope that this letter finds each and every one of you enjoying life to it fullest!  This letter kicks off not only our annual class and campus news but it’s the beginning of our preparation for our 40th Class Reunion coming up in 2008!  We all know that it’s extremely hard to believe that what seems like just yesterday (1968) has actually turned into 40 years since we were introduced to “Hello Walk” and we became members of the Gustie Family.  Nevertheless, it’s time to plan for our 40th Reunion get together and it’s all starting right now!

First thing to do is get out your calendars and put this weekend aside:  October 3 – 4, 2008!  It’s Homecoming 2008 and this will be the weekend of our celebration.  Paula Navarro, Kris Lundberg Moorhead and I (John Moorhead) have been meeting with the Alumni Office and we are putting together the schedule of events but this is only the beginning!  What we can tell you is that on Friday night October 3rd we’ll gather at the Marriott Minneapolis Airport Hotel (right across from Ikea on the 494 strip) for an evening of memories, renewing old friendships and just plain, good, old Gustie fun over cocktails and hor d’oeuvres.  On Saturday we’ll continue to celebrate on campus with a “beer-bust” (that’s right beer and wine on campus―you bet things have changed in 40 years!) followed by the football game or campus tours.  That’s the beginning of the plan and we certainly hope that you’ll do your part by making room on your schedule to join us for this celebration.

Over the next twelve months we will be putting all the details together and as we do we’ll be keeping you up-dated.  One of the most important pieces is that we are asking for HELP and we’ll be reaching out to many of you asking for a devotion of a small portion of your time to be part of a calling committee so that we can contact and personally invite all our classmates to our 40th!  Naturally, all volunteers are welcome, so don’t be bashful.  If you’d like to be part of the planning committee please let us know!

Class News and Notes:

Donna Widstrom Dunn is associate director for the Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault.  She resides in St. Paul.

John Blair ’66 reports that his wife, Starr Hall Blair, has been ill recently.  We’ll certainly keep you both in our thoughts and prayers.

Jack Niemi who was vice president for development at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, CA has resigned due to a heart condition.  Jack reports that the future is bright and we certainly hope so!  Jack and Ruth (Johns ’69) you will be in our thoughts and prayers.  Our wish is, Jack, that you’ll be back to 100% soon and able to join us in October ’08!

Carl Zaar was in town recently and Paula, Kris, Sue Swanson Foster and I all got together for breakfast at Ikea.  It was great to see Carl after 40 years and do some serious catching up!  We look forward to seeing you, Carl, at the 40th!

The Alumni Office recently sent out a reunion questionnaire asking for your updated information, so please take a few minutes to complete the form and return it so that we can keep current with you.

Since this is one of many “letters” you’ll be receiving over the next twelve months we’ll keep it short and simple.  After reading this, if you do nothing more than put the weekend of October 3-4, 2008 on your calendars and start making plans to be part of our 40th celebration, we couldn’t have asked for more!

All our best!  More 40th details to follow soon!

Paula, Kris and John
