			<p> Gustavus track and field athletes <strong>Anna Bauer (So., Hastings, Minn.), Shanna Dawson (Sr., Fairmont, Minn.), and Chris deLaubenfels (Sr., Mount Vernon, Iowa)</strong> have been recognized recently by the United States Track &amp; Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on its 2008 Division III All-Academic Women's and Men's Track and Field teams.  Twenty-eight MIAC student-athletes from four MIAC institutions helped comprise the list of 392 student-athletes that made up the team.</p>

				<p> The Gustavus Adolphus College Athletics Department has announced the 2007-08 Female and Male Student Athletes of the Year and they are Lisa Brown, a track and field athlete from Lake Crystal, Minnesota and Andy Bryan, a tennis player from Edina, Minnesota. Brown and Bryan, who are the eighth annual recipients of the Gustavus Athlete of the Year awards, will be honored at the Gustavus Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet, which will take place on Saturday, October 25 in Alumni Hall on the Gustavus campus.</p>

				<p> Gustavus Adolphus College athlete Lisa Brown capped off an exciting track and field season by finishing 13th in the javelin throw at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon on a hot, humid Saturday afternoon.  The Lake Crystal, Minn. native recorded a throw of 48.08 meters (157 feet, 9 inches), and narrowly missed participating in Monday night's javelin throw final as the top 12 finishers qualified for the finals.</p>

				<p> The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) recently announced its 2007-08 Winter and Spring Academic All-Conference honorees. The MIAC recognized 387 student-athletes who represented the conference's thirteen institutions. Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior, or senior with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale to qualify for MIAC Academic All-Conference recognition.</p>

				<p> Gustavus junior Lisa Brown (Lake Crystal, Minn.) won the javelin title at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships with a school and conference record effort of 174 feet, 5 inches on Saturday afternoon.  Brown, who won the national javelin title in 2006 and finished second in 2007, qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials with her winning effort.  She is the first Gustavus student-athlete to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials in track and field.</p>

				<p> Gustavus  sophomore Kaelene Lundstrum (Bird Island, Minn.) finished second in the heptathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Championships taking place at the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh.  Lundstrum, who led through five of the seven events, was edged by Amy Reed of Messiah College with 5,111 points.  Lundstrum's total of 4,762 points shattered her own Gustavus mark of 4,430 points, while also breaking the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference mark of 4,668 points.</p>

				<p> Sophomore Kaelene Lundstrum turned in a strong first day and sits in first place in the heptathlon at the NCAA Championships taking place at the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh.  Lundstrum won the high jump (5-6) and shot put (41-1) and sits in first place with 3,015 points.  She is 75 points ahead of Lindsay Lange of Hope College (2,940).  Senior Shanna Dawson finished 13th in the pole vault at a height of 11-4 1/2.</p>

That group includes junior Lisa Brown, sophomore Kaelene Lundstrum, and senior Shanna Dawson. Brown will be making her third consecutive appearance at the national outdoor meet, while Lundstrum and Dawson will be making their first appearance.</p>

Three Gusties claimed individual championships and that group included Lisa Brown (javelin), Shanna Dawson (pole vault), and Kaelene Lundstrum (high jump).</p>
