				<p> Peter Haugen, a native of Minneapolis and a 1991 graduate of Bethel University, has been named the head football coach at Gustavus Adolphus College. Haugen, who has been the head football coach at Minneapolis Washburn High School for the past 15 years, succeeds Jay Schoenebeck who announced he was stepping down after 15 years as the Gusties head coach just prior to the 2008 season.</p>

				<p> Gustavus Adolphus College will be interviewing two candidates for its vacant head football coaching position on campus this Thursday, Dec. 4 and Friday, Dec. 5.  The two candidates are Minneapolis Washburn High School Head Coach Peter Haugen and current Gustavus Assistant Coach Tom Brown.  Haugen will be on campus all day on Thursday, while Brown will be on campus all day on Friday.  The College hopes to announce its new coach as soon as possible after the interviews.</p>

				<p> Gustavus Adolphus College football player T.J. Ridley, a junior safety from Edina, Minn., has been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division Second Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Ridley, who carries a 3.96 grade point average with a major in Biology and Pre-Med, finished the season with 38 tackles (18 solo), two interceptions, and 1.5 tackles for loss.  He is also a forward on the Golden Gustie men's hockey team.</p>

				<p> The Gustavus football team was unable to hold off a fourth quarter charge as Concordia spoiled Head Coach Jay Schoenebeck's final game by defeating the Gusties 27-21 Saturday at Lloyd Hollingsworth Field.  Gustavus held a 21-6 halftime lead, but Justin Brantner scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to help Concordia pull out the come-from-behind victory.  The Gusties wrapped up the 2008 season at 6-4 overall and 4-4 in the MIAC standings.</p>

				<p> Gustavus football coach Jay Schoenebeck was featured on WCCO-TV's "On the Spot" weather forecast on the Thursday night 10 p.m. news broadcast.  The station chose to feature Schoenebeck in honor of his last football game as the Gusties' head coach.  He has been on the Gustavus sidelines for 15 years as the head coach.  Saturday's game against Concordia College has a forecast of 30 degrees with cloud cover and northwest winds gusting to 17 mph at game time.</p>

				<p> The Gustavus football team was unable to get into the end zone on first-and-goal in the second overtime period as the Gusties suffered a heartbreaking 27-20 loss to St. Olaf in Northfield on Saturday.  John Ostertag kicked a 25-yard field goal with 3:02 left in the game to give Gustavus the 20-13 lead, but the Oles forced overtime with a Ryan St. John 10-yard touchdown catch with 00:36 on the clock.  Gustavus, which had its four-game winning streak snapped, dropped to 6-3 overall and 4-3 in the MIAC.</p>
