Highway 169 Construction

Alternate Routes to Gustavus

The city of St. Peter has joined the Minnesota Department of Transportation in planning for the reconstruction of Highway 169 from Union Street (in the north) to Jefferson Avenue (in the south), beginning on Thursday, July 9, and concluding by the Thanksgiving weekend.

Gustavus, located on the western edge of the city, will be accessible throughout the reconstruction phase. For special events, such as Move-in Day and the Nobel Conference, please watch for Gustavus sandwich signs that will help guide you to campus.

  • From the North (in blue), signage on Minnesota Avenue (Hwy 169) will direct you to turn right at Chatham Street for one block; left on Third Street for two blocks, and right onto Broadway Avenue (heading west). Make a left on Washington Avenue and a right on College Avenue.
  • From the South (in green), traveling either Hwy 169 or Hwy 22, turn left onto Jefferson Avenue (heading west). Make a right turn at Washington Avenue and a left at College.
  • From the East (follow orange then blue), proceed west on Broadway Avenue and follow detour signs.

Broadway and Jefferson Avenues both cross Washington Avenue, and the College is accessible from Washington via Jefferson, College Avenue, or Grace Street.

Since traffic may be re-routed differently during the reconstruction, visit the Discover Saint Peter website for current detour information. The College will issue specific routing instructions during special campus events, such as Move-in Days, Homecoming/Family Weekend, and the Nobel Conference.
