Incoming Student Assignment Process
- Student is admitted to Gustavus and accepts through submission of the Admission Deposit. This Admission Deposit is utilized in prioritizing student housing assignments.
- Gustavus Admission Office sends a packet of information that includes the Housing Contract and Handbook as well as Health Service information.
- Student completes the Housing Contract and Preference Form and returns it to the Gustavus Finance Office. If the date of return is on or prior to June 2, the student's Admission Deposit priority date is secured. If the Housing Contract and Preference Form is received after June 2, priority becomes the date the Housing Contract was received.
- Residential Life staff divide contracts according to gender and place the contracts in priority order.
- Staff matches students utilizing the "Preference" information on the Contract and Preference Form. Matching information includes:
- Building
- Smoking Preference
- Alcohol Preference
- Quiet/Outgoing scale
- Neat/Messy Scale
- Morning/Night Owl Preference
- Academic Major
Area of Interest
- Extra-curricular or
Athletic Interests
- Type of Music
- What you are looking
for in a Roommate
- Interest in Living with
an International Student
- Specific Roommate Request
- Once a roommate has been located, the staff member assigns the student to a specific room. Staff members attempt to honor requests for building assignments but are not always able to as there are specific numbers of beds in each building. (Remember, first year students are assigned to Norelius Hall, Pittman Hall, and Sohre Hall. Transfer students that have lived in college or university residence halls can be assigned into all other building on campus that have space available.)
- In late July, all students are sent their housing assignments, including their roommate's name and home phone number, as well as a publication entitled "A View From the Hill" which includes the name of your CF.
- In early August, information will be sent concerning the moving in process.
