Timothy O'Brien ’99

Adjunct Instructor

Music

A native of St. Peter, MN, Tim O'Brien teaches private voice at Gustavus. He is a 1999 graduate of the college, and he also holds an MA from the University of Minnesota. Tim has recently begun work on his PhD. Now in his seventh season singing with the Saint Paul-based Rose Ensemble, Tim plays a variety of medieval percussion instruments in addition to singing, and also serves on the ensemble's educational outreach team, performing for and coaching students of all ages. A past member of the Dale Warland Singers, he maintains a busy teaching and research schedule, working as a freelance program annotator and pre-concert lecturer in addition to singing. Though he currently teaches the History of Rock 'n' Roll as Graduate instructor of Record at the University of Minnesota, he is, at heart, a medievalist and early musician. Recently returned from his second summer walking the Camino de Santiago in France and Spain, Tim pursues an active interest in the relationships between medieval and modern life.
