Sujay's research focuses on the political conflicts in Argentina's provinces from independence in 1810 to 1862. He is particularly interested in Argentina's littoral region, which lies along the rivers north of Buenos Aires. In addition to several shorter research trips, most recently in the summer of 2009, Sujay lived in Argentina during 1997-8. His work on Argentine history has been supported by fellowships and grants from several programs including the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Fulbright program, and the US Department of Education's Foreign Language Area Studies program.

At Gustavus, Sujay enjoys teaching courses on Latin American history. He focuses particularly on Argentina, Mexico, Cuba, US-Latin American relations, Mexican-American history, and the Spanish conquest of the Americas. Beginning in the fall of 2007, Sujay is also serving as director of the college's First Term Seminar (FTS) Program.

Sujay enjoys spending time with his wife and two young daughters, watching reruns of Columbo, bird watching, listening to classical music (especially Beethoven), and reading about the Napoleonic era. He is also a huge fan of Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey-Maturin novels and John Le Carre.
