Rebecca McConnaughey

Rebecca Hiatt McConnaughey, received her Bachelor of Music degree, cum laude, from Salem College, her Master of Music from the University of Colorado, and her Doctor of Musical Arts from Boston University. Her teachers have included John Paton, Mac Morgan, Evelyn Reynolds and Sharon Daniels. She has been active both as a singer and director of opera. She has performed the roles of Susanna in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, Dido in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, and Euridice in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice. She created the role of Wetatonmi in the world premiere of Richard Emery's opera Death in Wallowa Valley about the exile and surrender of the Nez Perce First Nation people. She has been active as a recitalist and chamber musician throughout her career and in particular has championed the works of 20th and 21st century American composers. Dr. McConnaughey has taught at colleges and universities in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Indiana and is Adjunct Assistant Professor at Gustavus. She also maintains a private voice studio. Her current scholarship and performance focus is Scots Gaelic Song. She will be on leave and studying in the Highlands of Scotland during the fall of 2008.
