Paul Budde graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire in 1993 with a Bachelors Degree in Instrumental Music Education and from the University of Minnesota in 2004 with a Masters Degree in Tuba Performance, and is working on a PhD in Music Education from the University of Minnesota.

Paul is currently on faculty at Gustavus Adolphus College and Mankato State University where he teaches Euphonium and Tuba, and at the University of St. Thomas where he teaches Music Theory.  Paul also served as a sabbatical replacement for Dr. Jerry Young at the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire for the Spring Semester 2006 and has taught private tuba lessons at Bethel University.

Paul’s playing experiences have included Solo Recitals and Performances around the upper midwest, Chamber Ensemble experiences in Brass Quintets (St. Anthony Brass Quintet, Clearwater Brass Quintet, and Bellwether Brass Quintet) and Tuba Quartets (The Pistons and Smashing Tubas), as well as Large Group Ensembles (Minnesota Orchestra, Encore Wind Ensemble, Lake Wobegon Brass Band, and the Saint Paul Civic Symphony).  Paul’s collegiate tuba quartet, The Pistons, was the first place winner of the first-ever International Tuba/Euphonium Quartet Competition in 1992.  Paul’s primary tuba instructors have been Jerry Young and Ross Tolbert, but he has also studied with Arnold Jacobs, Sam Pilafian, and Patrick Sheridan.

In addition to teaching and performing, Paul has served as Chairperson for Tubonium, a two-day tuba and euphonium workshop (held at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN), bringing Guest Artists Tom Ashworth, Alan Baer, Brian Bowman, Marty Erickson, Michael Forbes, Mark Jenkins, Lance LaDuke, John Manning, Steven Mead, Dan Perantoni, Ben Pierce, Jim Self, Patrick Sheridan, John Stevens, Scott Watson, David Werden, and Jerry Young as performers and clinicians to this Minnesota event.  He has also served on the Board of Directors for the Minnesota Band Director’s Association.
