Micah J Maatman has been on the Gustavus Theatre and Dance Faculty since 2007 as the Assistant Professor of Design and Technology. Micah received his B.A. in Theatre from Hope College in Holland, Michigan and holds an M.F.A. in Theatrical Design with emphasis in Scenic Design from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He loves exploring how we express ourselves visually and enjoys talking about and exploring the thoughts and implications behind visual expression with students. Micah teaches a wide range of course work including Beginning Experiments in Design, Scenery: Craft and Design, Theatrical Media and Design Technology, and Arts Management among many others. He loves Gustavus students and takes great satisfaction from helping young artists connect to, explore, and think creatively about the spaces that surround us. When not in Anderson Theatre, Micah enjoys woodworking and woodcarving, spending time with his dogs, and watching the Bears on Sundays despite his newfound residency in Viking country.
