Dr. Michael Jorgensen's latest recital was an October, 2009 CD Release Concert at Gustavus with Bonnie Jorgensen, David Jorgensen, and Dr. David Klee. Recent solo performances include Brahms Reqiuem at the College of St. Catherine's in Cambridge, MN, Mozart's Requiem at Macalester College in St. Paul, and Bach's St. John's Passion at Normandale Lutheran Church in Edina, MN. Other recent performances include bass soloist in the European premiere of the Stephen Paulus Holocaust oratorio To Be Certain of the Dawn and recitals of works by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Dominick Argento as part of the St. Paul's Schubert Club's Summer Song Festival, as well as Handel's Messiah at the Paramount Theatre in St. Cloud and Dvorak's Stabat Mater and Bloch's Sacred Service at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. Upcoming solo performances include Mendelssohn's Elijah in March, 2010 with the St. Peter Choral Society.
In sixteen years as a bass singer with the VocalEssence Ensemble Singers of Minnesota Jorgensen soloed in world premiere works by composers Francis Grier, Steve Heitzeg, and Libby Larsen, and soloed under conductors John Rutter, Helmuth Rilling, and Nicholas McGegan, as well as singing the solo An die Musik by Schubert on Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion.
Michael serves as a Professor of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College, where he has taught voice and other music-related courses since 1991. He is the current holder of the Ethel and Edgar F. Johnson Professorship in the Fine Arts and is serving as the interim Music Department Chair.
